Carey and Ashley pull over, seeing that the driver is barely conscious, but his wife has been ejected from her seat. Ashley tries to revive the woman, only to be told by an arriving police officer that the woman is dead. Carey tries to help, but his dick is hanging out. Carey and Ashley continue their drive until Ashley comes out and tells Carey that she wants to divorce him. sex. The day after, Carey tells Paul that he and Julie had sex, thinking he would be okay with it given the open relationship. Paul slaps Carey a few times before Carey starts hitting Paul back. They get into a very violent fight throughout the house, where Paul actually tries to burn Carey’s face by spraying hairspray and then lighting it. They also accidentally break Russ’s fish tank and try to save his fish. Carey and Paul end up tackling each other out the window and crash into the pool, where Julie and Russ come home to find the two bickering. Julie makes them apologize to each other but she also apologizes after seeing how out of hand the situation got. Carey later goes with Julie and Russ to a carnival. He helps Russ win some new pet fish, but he stupidly brings the fish onto a roller coaster and loses all of them. The group is then joined by a single dad, Brent (O-T Fagbenle), and his son. Carey gets jealous of how flirtatious Brent is with Julie and is aggressive enough for Brent and his kid to leave. Julie confronts Carey over his behavior, and he admits that the night they spent together meant a lot to him. Julie tells him to get his mind off of it. Carey returns home, where Ashley has been hooking up with a guy named Jackson (Charlie Gillespie). Carey appears unbothered by the affair and even makes Jackson a sandwich. Ashley tries to finish reading her letter, but Carey tells her that he is willing to get into an open relationship to avoid divorcing each other, admitting that he already slept with someone but not revealing that it was Julie. Ashley comes around to the idea, while Carey sleeps in another room
and listens to Jackson and Ashley going at it again. Ashley starts seeing other people, including Fede (David Castaneda) and Antoneta (Nahema Ricci), who start living in the house while Carey casually befriends them, to Ashley’s irritation. Paul, who has been separated from Julie, goes to the house to confront Carey about sleeping with Julie, which Ashley finds out about. He wants payback for what Carey did, but Ashley is not willing to sleep with Paul. Julie drops Russ off at school, where Carey is working the dropoff section. He ditches his post to go out with Julie, where she tells Carey that Paul shut his company down and their assets are frozen. Carey admits that he has not been able to stop thinking about Julie, which she reciprocates. She also admits that she never slept with anybody throughout her and Paul’s marriag. She and Carey kiss goodbye, and he returns to work in high spirits. Paul, who has been staying with Carey and Ashley, witnesses Julie dropping Carey back off and passive-agressively tries to get him to admit that they are seeing each other. Carey later joins Paul and Julie at school because Russ got into trouble for pantsing another kid that pantsed him first, except Russ accidentally broke the kid’s arm. After a long and uncomfortable meeting with the school’s director, Dr. Ott (Tyrone Benskin), Russ is expelled, and Carey gets himself fired in a futile attempt to defend Russ by saying that he encouraged him to pants the other kid. Outside the class, Julie angrily berates Paul for taking out loans in Russ’s name and finding out that Paul is being indicted for tax reasons while filing for bankruptcy. They are going to lose their beach house and Julie’s car has been repossessed. To rub salt in
the wound, Julie admits that she has been sleeping with Carey (and that his dick is bigger than Paul’s). Paul ends up spending some time in jail, with Russ thinking he is away on business. Carey visits him, and Paul admits that he fucked up. Paul is later let out on early parole while Carey stays with him, Julie and Russ. Paul also agrees to sign divorce papers for Julie. Paul and Ashley attempt to have sex to make their spouses jealous but ultimately agree that they are not interested enough to go through with it, as well as the fact that Ashley knows nothing is going to make Carey jealous. The adults gather for Russ’s birthday party, where one of Ashley’s lovers, Matt The Mentalist (Nicholas Braun), performs for the kids. Paul brings a woman named Keri (Jessika Mathurin) that he poses as his girlfriend, complete with a wig and dress to match Julie’s appearance in an explicit attempt to piss her off. Ashley catches Carey alone and makes an attempt to win him back, singing a song by The Fray since they met at one of their concerts. Carey thinks that their relationship is toxic and he admits that he was always jealous of all her lovers being in the house and that he befriended them to make Ashley mad. Carey doesn’t think they should stay together and could still be friends, but Ashley still tries to kiss Carey. Julie pulls Paul aside to confront him over Keri, leading to Paul admitting that he never slept with anybody else despite their open relationship, it was just something that he came up with out of insecurity since he thought she might leave him. They start to have sex, which Carey walks in on and feels bad about. The four
adults (and Matt) all get into an argument in the kitchen where Carey and Paul start hitting each other again, and Ashley brings out a revised letter, stating that it took her a while to realize that she really does want to be with Carey, while Matt makes an overly elaborate “final act” to admit his love for Ashley. The argument ends when a fire breaks out because Carey gave Russ oversized candles to light and they tipped over, but they are saved by a fire extinguisher. Sometime later, everyone is in the hospital, seemingly for Paul’s injuries, except he and Russ come out with gifts. It turns out that Carey and Ashley have become parents to a baby boy, their marriage seemingly fixed. The couples spend time at the beach house (which is becoming a B&B) while they still have it. Julie and Paul are not back together, but they still have somewhat of a sexual relationship. Russ goes off with a friend as they take some guy’s jet ski. He confronts the adults about it, leading to Carey and Paul fighting the guy. Ashley and Julie consider intervening but decide to let the guys work it out.
