As Taiyi puts both bodies in the Sacred Lotus, Chentang Pass comes under attack from Shen Gongbao (Daniel Riordan), Ao Bing’s former demon master. Gongbao is working with the Loongs, the Dragon Kings of the Four Seas. Ao Guang believes Ao Bing to be dead, so he has Gongbao lead them to attack Chentang Pass. The Loongs attack the city, but Ao Bing uses his power to stop a massive strike. Ao Bing must now go through three trials within seven days to become a xian (immortal). They know that they must conceal Ne Zha’s true identity as a demon. Ao Guang promises to destroy Chentang Pass if Ao Bing is not saved, but Ne Zha responds that he will retaliate if Ao Guang harms his home. The townsfolk gather along with Li Jing and Yin to bid Ne Zha and Ao Bing farewell. Yin tries to give her son a hug goodbye, but he is too embarrassed to do so. The boys join Taiyi on his flying pig to train and then head to the Yu Xu Palace, where Ne Zha takes a sleeping pill so that Ao Bing can take over his body. They meet Immortal Wuliang (Robert Clotworthy), who leads the other immortals alongside his disciples in the Chan sect, Deero (Damien Haas) and Crana (Grace Lu). Ne Zha wakes up and takes over his own body, then has Crana take him to the bathroom. He ends up in a room with leaf bowls that look like toilets, only to discover later that they are water bowls that the immortals drink from (after he’s already peed in one). Shen Gongbao is tasked by Ao Guang to guard Chentang Pass along with Li Jing and Lady Yin, training himself along with his creature lackeys. Gongbao is soon met by his younger brother, Shen Xiaobao (Aidyn Ahn), who possesses a . Ne Zha and Ao Bing head for their first trial, which is to rid a village of an army of marmot demons. Ne Zha first smacks a bowl of food out of one of their hands, leading to it screaming and getting the attention of their leader. Ne Zha goes into sleep mode while Ao Bing takes over and
utilizes his combat skills, but Ne Zha wakes up and gets thrown around by his marmot opponent. The sleeping pills fall into the marmots’ stew, which Ne Zha drinks all of. Ao Bing resumes the fight, but Ne Zha pukes the stew and resorts to drinking it back to gain the upper hand. The disciples proceed to capture the marmots. The boys join Taiyi as Wuliang guides them to meet with the other immortals, where Wuliang shows them that he has created immortality pills to boost their powers. Meanwhile, Ne Zha has some insecurities over becoming an immortal because of his appearance and demon status, but he vows to Ao Bing that he will gain his immortality. The second trial begins, where the master (Richard Epcar) is training other animal demons by a waterfall. Ne Zha arrives and insults the master before letting Ao Bing take over. He uses his fighting skills well at first, but the master is able to produce electric currents in the water, making him stronger and faster. Ao Bing freezes the entire landscape, leading to the disciples to capture the animals and the master. Shen Xiaobao emerges after witnessing the scene, as the master is his and Gongbao’s father, Shen Zhengdao. Xiaobao reverts to his animal form and attacks the disciples. Deero fires an arrow at Xiaobao, but Zhengdao takes the hit before getting Xiaobao out of there. Deero tries to fire 50 arrows at once, but they escape before the rest of the demons are taken in. Xiaobao makes it back to Chentang Pass and appears to die in Shen Gongbao’s arms, causing him to grow rage towards Ne Zha. Before beginning the final trial, Ne Zha and Taiyi are informed that Chentang Pass has been destroyed. They return to find the place in
ruins, apparently caused by the Loongs. Ne Zha is led to believe that his parents were also killed in the destruction. Filled with fury, Ne Zha sets off with Ao Bing’s spirit outside of his body. He encounters a stone demon, Shi Ji, who transforms into a gigantic stone monster, but Ne Zha knocks her town to a tiny size. With this, the third trial is completed, and Ne Zha meets with Wuliang to complete the Ascension Spell. After gaining his immortality, Ne Zha agrees to join Wuliang in attacking the Dragon Palace. Meanwhile, Taiyi uses the elixir to restore Ao Bing’s body. Wuliang arrives before Ao Guang and presents a giant cauldron that will serve as a prison for the dragons. Ao Guang learns that his siblings have betrayed him and are working with Wuliang. As a result, they are able to escape imprisonment. Ne Zha fights Ao Guang, still believing him to be responsible for the destruction of Chentang Pass. Wuliang then states his plans to turn the prisoners into pills. Ne Zha is stunned to find his parents arriving to greet him, causing him to become overwhelmed with emotion. They reveal that Wuliang is the true villain, as he orchestrated the attack on Chentang Pass to blame on the Loongs. A flashback shows that Shen Gongbao became aware of the scheme and helped Li Jing and Lady Yin briefly turn to stone to escape unharmed. By framing Ao Guang and the Loongs, Wuliang would ensure the Chan sect’s total domination. Ne Zha and Ao Bing battle Deero, Crana, and the Dragon Kings in their humanoid forms. After a lengthy fight, Ne Zha and Ao Bing go for Wuliang, but he uses a Heart-Piercing Curse that produces spikes from the inside-out of their bodies. Wuliang imprisons the heroes
inside his cauldron. Inside the cauldron, the increasing heat is turning the trapped demons into pills. If the boys were to move, the force would destroy their bodies. Lady Yin chooses to hug her son one last time, despite the lethal effect it will have on her. Ne Zha wails in agony as his mother dies and turns to a pill. Consumed with grief and rage, Ne Zha uses the fires of the cauldron to break free from the curse, transforming his body into his stronger, teenage form (making him physically closer in age to Ao Bing). Ne Zha and Ao Bing use their combined forces to break free from the cauldron and proceed to go after Wuliang. After dealing with the disciples, the boys face off against Wuliang, who goes from a small old man to a hulking brute that produces branches. Ne Zha and Ao Bing team up and pummel Wuliang to a pulp, forcing the villains to retreat. Afterwards, Ao Guang leads his remaining forces into hiding. Ao Bing nearly joins him, but his father can see that he wants to stay with Ne Zha. Ao Bing bids his father farewell and rejoins Ne Zha. The two friends then agree to continue fighting together. During the credits, Wuliang is joined by Deero and Crana as they check in on the imprisoned Shen Gongbao and Zhengdao, hoping to recruit them for his side. After leaving, Wuliang means to go back, but he put the guard outside the prison in a trance, and only he can update the facial recognition scanner since Wuliang’s face is still healing. Since the scanner cannot recognize him, Deero and Crana start beating up Wuliang until he looks like how the scanner will recognize him. Meanwhile, Ne Zha’s brothers Jin Zha and Mu Zha
arrive at the palace to meet with Wuliang, only to find he is not there.
