Full Story & Spoilers

The film opens on a school bus. Amber Wyatt (Bianca Belle) is drawing in her notebook and being annoyed by her classmate Bowman Lynch (Kalon Cox). Bowman takes Amber’s notebook and finds an unsettling picture that she drew of a creature cutting Bowman in half, causing him to run away in a panic. Amber is later brought to the school counselor, Dr. Land (Nadia Benavides), who also meets with her father Taylor (Tony Hale). Amber is using her drawings as an outlet for her grief over losing her mother Ally (Allie McCulloch). Dr. Land gives Amber a sketchbook for her to put down all of her drawings, encouraging her to keep creating to help her cope. Amber’s younger brother Jack (Kue Lawrence) is walking in the woods when he suddenly trips and drops his phone in a pond. He scrapes his hand and dips it in the pond to retrieve his phone. To his surprise, the cut on his hand is later completely healed, and his broken phone has been mysteriously fixed. During dinner, Jack also annoys Amber since he copes with their mother’s death differently and hasn’t been able to talk to Taylor about it. Meanwhile, Taylor is trying to sell the house with help from his real estate agent sister Liz (D’Arcy Carden). Before going to school, Amber asks Taylor to promise that he will not look at her sketchbook, which he says he will not. However, after accidentally spilling coffee on it and trying to fix it, the pages flip open next to a fan, and Taylor sees all of Amber’s bizarre drawings. He also makes potential buyers uncomfortable with his weird behavior, to Liz’s annoyance. When Amber comes home, she finds out her dad saw her sketchbook and is upset. After talking it over, Amber explains

some of the monsters she came up with. There is a blue creature called the Blood Eater, which eats blood and throws it back up at people; the Tattler, a giant blind orange monster; Stabidons, sharp-beaked birds that love to stab; Eyeders, which steal peoples’ belongings; and Evil Amber, the creature that she came up with that specifically wants to attack Bowman. However, Amber does have a few nice drawings, like little heart creatures that do good, as well as a butterfly modeled after a tattoo that Ally had (but Amber thinks it looks like a butt). Later at night, Jack goes to the pond with a box containing his mother’s ashes, with the intention of bringing her back. Amber sees him and tries to stop him, but in their struggle, her sketchbook falls into the pond. When she pulls it out, Amber later sees that most of her drawings have seemingly vanished from their pages. Before they return home, they hear what sounds like a loud roar. In the morning, Amber sees what look like yellow stains on the window, as though something was hitting it at night. On the way to school, along with Jack, Bowman, and classmates Demarcus and Carson (Jaxen Kenner and Genesis Rose Brown), their bus stops after seeing an overturned car, and what look like blue smears across the ground. The kids and bus driver Ms. Thompson (Randa Newman) are stunned to see what looks like a giant googly-eyed blue two-limbed creature that vomits glitter, one of the monsters that Amber drew. Ms. Thompson drives away but crashes into a cornfield and is knocked unconscious. In order to distract the blue monster, Demarcus plays a jazzy tune on his phone that lulls it to sleep. Bowman runs away first like a coward, but the

other kids manage to escape the bus. The monster reawakens as the song changes to something louder, and the kids make a run for it. Meanwhile at home, Taylor finds weird things happening, like a plate that they broke the night before being magically repaired. He goes into one of the bedrooms while Liz is doing another showing, and he finds an Eyeder in the closet, which he stomps out. He then gets a phone call regarding his kids not making it to school. Amber and Jack get separated from Demarcus and Carson, while they find Bowman in the woods and encounter the Tattler and his companion (a creepy siren-like sunflower). The kids work together to throw the smaller monster into the water, where it dissolves, and outrun the big orange monster. They run back to the Wyatt house to figure out a way to combat the monsters. Taylor and Liz go out with the police to look for the kids. They run into a weird cat with tentacles, which is the drawing on the cover of Amber’s book. Liz also tries to help Taylor confront his grief over losing Ally, and the way that he is handling it with the kids. They spot some Stabidons attacking electrical towers, forcing them to run. The kids gather materials to use against the monsters based on what was used to draw them (water against chalk, fire against crayon, etc). Before they head out, they are attacked by a whole swarm of Eyeders around the house. The kids use water guns, a showerhead, and the garden hose to dispatch the little chalk critters. Taylor and Liz return home and only see the aftermath, but not the kids. After having a heart-to-heart, they hear a noise against the window and see a yellow butterfly,

the same one that Amber drew in memory of Ally. The trio run into the woods, where Amber and Jack have an argument because she knows that he is trying to bring their mother back to life by throwing her ashes into the pond. They argue over the way they cope with their grief. Soon, they run into Evil Amber, who has been drawing more creatures with sharpies, and then throwing them in the pond to bring them to life. Jack finds some of Amber’s old drawings that the Eyeders snatched away, including some where she drew herself and Jack in heroic poses with cool weapons. Jack gets a “Minecraft”-esque sword while Bowman fashions himself a type of blaster. The kids fight off Evil Amber’s creations before Taylor and Liz arrive and join the fight. Jack tries to use a makeshift flamethrower, while Amber draws tentacles on her arms and uses the pond to make them real. Evil Amber prepares to go after her creator, but Bowman blasts her into ink with his weapon. He then makes a failed attempt to ask Amber to be his girlfriend, which she declines. The kids then send out Amber’s good monster drawings to eliminate the remaining bad monsters. Taylor finds his kids and sees Jack walking toward the pond. He tells his son he knows what he wants to do, but they need to be open with each other about their grief. Jack then sees that the ashes spilled out of a hole in the box anyway. Taylor hugs his son, and Amber joins them. Sometime later, the Wyatts are back to normal and moving on with their lives. As the kids go to school, an Eyeder is seen crawling from behind a tree, only for one of the heart monsters to eat

it. Related Movies: *CUT TO THE CHASE*Brought to you by Amber Wyatt is a young girl who draws monsters to cope with the death of her mother.
